Update May 26
Road maintenance commencing June 2 on Heckman Hill. Dust suppression and washboard removal. in my phone discussion, after relating our mode of transport, the contractor rep. anticipates good conditions ahead of our ride.
Read this description carefully to understand what you are signing up for.
Ride start and finish at Sandman Inn in Williams Lake. The ride has a staffed control in Anahim Lake (Escott Bay Resort) for both overnights. Riders can have a drop bag which should contain food, clothing and any other necessities for 3 days of riding. There is a kitchen in the cabin at Escott Bay and the volunteer will move your goods to the cabin, but will not be providing or making food for the riders. There will be a small charge per rider (maximum $25 per night) to subsidize cabin cost.
This is a challenging ride. There are limited services and there is almost 80km of gravel (40 down and 40 up), mostly on the famed Heckman Hill. Check it out before you commit. It is 1500+ metres of descending to Bella Coola with the same amount climbing on the return, all on day 2. The hill has steep sections.
You will likely encounter wildlife on the road, including both black and grizzly bears.
